What a wonderful June we have had, with weather like this it's understandable that June is one of the most popular months in the UK for saying 'I do!'. At the start of the month the weather usually starts to warm and by the end of the month we enjoy the longest days of the year. One of the most important aspects of any wedding is the flowers. Choosing June as your wedding month means that you can have beautiful seasonal blooms, grown locally and arranged in eco-friendly ways. There are plenty of beautiful seasonal options to choose from in June. In this article, we'll look at the options for seasonal, sustainable, wedding flowers in June. I'll introduce you to some of the most popular flowers that are in bloom in the UK during this time of year, and offer some ideas for how you can incorporate them into your wedding day.
Peonies are a popular choice for weddings throughout the year, but they are particularly abundant and seasonal in June. These large, fluffy blooms come in a range of colours, from pure white to deep pink, and have a sweet, delicate fragrance. They're perfect for creating romantic, whimsical bouquets and centrepieces, and can be paired with other flowers like roses, hydrangeas, or delphiniums for a truly stunning effect.
Roses are a classic choice for weddings, and they're available in a wide range of colours and varieties, from traditional red and pink to more unusual shades like apricot and peach. In June, you can benefit from garden roses in bloom, which have a more natural, textured appearance than traditional roses. Roses often appear in my bridal bouquets as a focal flower, in June the scent of the garden roses I grow in my cut flower garden is exhilarating.
Delphiniums are tall, elegant flowers that come in shades of blue, purple, and white. They make a striking addition to any bouquet or centrepiece, and can be used to create a sense of height and drama. I often pair them with other flowers like roses or peonies for a romantic, garden-inspired look.
4. Sweet Peas
Sweet peas are delicate, fragrant flowers that come in shades of pink, purple, and white. They have a light, airy appearance that makes them perfect for creating loose, unstructured bouquets and arrangements. Combine them with other soft, romantic flowers like ranunculus or lisianthus for a dreamy, ethereal look. Sweet peas are one of my absolute favourites during June because of the memories I have from childhood. I'd spend time with my grandparents cutting sweet peas for vases in their garden of adventures. It's my first memory of cutting flowers from the garden.
Hydrangeas are large, showy flowers that come in shades of white, pink, blue, and purple. They're perfect for creating lush, full arrangements, and can be used to create a sense of scale and volume. I often use Hydrangeas to create an en masse effect for bouquets, using one type of flower can create a stunning focal point of beauty.
Lisianthus, are delicate, bell-shaped flowers that come in shades of white, pink, and lavender. They have a romantic, vintage-inspired look that makes them perfect for weddings. I combine them with other soft, romantic flowers like roses or peonies for a timeless, elegant look.
Cornflowers are small, dainty flowers that come in shades of blue, pink, and white. They have a simple, rustic appearance that makes them perfect for outdoor or country-themed weddings. They're good paired with other wildflowers like daisies or Queen Anne's lace for a natural, whimsical look.
Antirrhinum are one of my favourites for the month of June. Their spires of perfect flowers that open when the bumblebees land on their bottom lip are stunning. I love the colour of the apple blossom variety, it's a mix between pink and apricot and lends itself to creating beautifully vibrant pastel bouquets. They excellent for provide height and texture too.
