Your Wedding will be a beautiful and joyous occasion, but it could also have a significant impact on the environment. From the venue to the food to the decorations, every aspect of your wedding could contribute to carbon emissions and waste.
There are lots of ways to reduce your weddings impact on the environment, see my other blog posts here if you need ideas! But Today I'm talking about stationary, it's one of your wedding details, so it's important to get it right but being sustainable when choosing a supplier or type is often overlooked.
Invitations, save-the-dates, menus and other paper goods can have a significant environmental impact, but there are ways to make them more sustainable. In this blog post, we’ll explore some of the most sustainable types of wedding stationery and why they’re a great choice for eco-conscious couples like you.
1. Recycled Paper
One of the most sustainable options for wedding stationery is recycled paper. Recycled paper is made from post-consumer waste, meaning it’s made from paper that has already been used and discarded. This process helps reduce the number of trees that are cut down to make new paper, as well as the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. Recycled paper comes in a variety of colors and textures, so it’s easy to find a style that fits your wedding theme.
2. Plantable Paper
Another eco-friendly option for wedding stationery is plantable paper. This type of paper is made from recycled materials and embedded with seeds. After your guests receive their invitations or save-the-dates, they can plant the paper in soil and watch it grow into wildflowers or herbs. Plantable paper is a unique and sustainable way to invite your guests to your wedding, and it’s a great way to give back to the environment.
3. Digital Invitations
In today’s digital age, more and more couples are opting for digital invitations instead of traditional paper ones. Digital invitations are sent via email or social media, which eliminates the need for paper, envelopes, and postage. Not only are digital invitations more sustainable, but they’re also more convenient and cost-effective. With digital invitations, you can easily track RSVPs, send reminders, and communicate with your guests.
4. Reusable Materials
If you’re looking for a truly unique and sustainable option for wedding stationery, consider using reusable materials. For example, you could send your guests a custom wooden magnet with your wedding details engraved on it. Your guests can then use the magnet as a keepsake or to hold up their own reminders and notes. Another idea is to send your guests a reusable cloth napkin or handkerchief with your wedding details printed or embroidered on it. These options are not only sustainable, but they’re also memorable and functional.
5. take a walk
If you're anything like me you'll love the romantic notion of sending invitations to your guests in the post. It's not often that I receive paper correspondence anymore other than bills, so when something lands through the door telling me of a wonderful celebration it gives me a lovely surprise and makes the act of receiving the invite so much more memorable. If you're local to the majority of your guests consider taking a walk and pop their invite through the letterbox instead, it'll give them a lovely surprise and you'll get a bit of exercise too, who knows who you might bump into.
In conclusion, there are many sustainable options for wedding stationery that can help reduce your carbon footprint and waste. Recycled paper, plantable paper, digital invitations, and reusable materials are all great choices for eco-conscious couples. By choosing sustainable wedding stationery, you can celebrate your love while also giving back to the environment.
